Our Policy

Popello has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). Users may not create, request, share, store, or distribute CSAM or any sexual content involving minors. We do not allow adults to use the service to groom, solicit, or exploit minors.

Violations result in immediate account action, preservation of relevant account metadata where legally required, and reporting to appropriate regional or national authorities when we become aware of CSAM or CSAE.

Prohibited Conduct

• Creating, uploading, sending, or sharing CSAM or sexual content involving anyone under 18.
• Grooming, soliciting minors, or attempting to move a minor to another platform for sexual purposes.
• Using Popello to coordinate trafficking, exploitation, or harm to children.
• Impersonating minors for sexual purposes or facilitating such impersonation.
• Any other conduct that violates applicable child safety laws.

These rules apply even though messages are end-to-end encrypted. Users remain responsible for what they send, and we act on credible reports using available account metadata and safety workflows.

Prevention Measures

• Age requirement: users must be at least 13 years old, as stated in our Terms of Service.
• Conduct rules: our Terms prohibit sexual content involving minors and other illegal abuse.
• Blocking: users can block another account from a chat’s menu to stop further contact.
• Account enforcement: we suspend or terminate accounts that violate these standards or create safety or legal risk.
• Rate limits and abuse detection: we use metadata such as message size and send rates to limit spam and platform abuse without reading message content.
• Deletion: users can delete their account and associated server-side data from the app.

How to Report

If you see suspected CSAE or CSAM on Popello:

• In the app: open the chat menu (⋯) and choose Report safety concern, or block the user immediately to stop contact.
• By email: contact hello@popello.chat with the reporter’s @handle, the reported user’s @handle, and any relevant details. Do not attach illegal material.
• General support: support@popello.chat

Our Response

When we receive a credible CSAE or CSAM report, we:

• Review the report promptly using our safety team workflow.
• Suspend or permanently terminate accounts involved in violations.
• Preserve relevant account metadata and logs as required for investigation and legal compliance.
• Cooperate with valid legal process from law enforcement.
• Escalate CSAM to appropriate authorities as required by law.

Because Popello uses end-to-end encryption, we generally cannot read message content on our servers. Reports should include handles and context so we can investigate using account-level information and user reports.

Reports to Authorities

Popello complies with applicable child safety laws. Where we obtain actual knowledge of CSAM or CSAE consistent with our legal obligations, we report to the appropriate regional or national authorities, including where applicable:

• NCMEC’s CyberTipline in the United States, when required.
• Equivalent hotlines or law-enforcement channels in other jurisdictions where we operate and where reporting is legally required.

We also respond to valid legal requests from law enforcement in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable law.
